Principal’s Message

Dear parents, staff and students,

As the new Principal, I would like to welcome all our 2019 parents, students and teachers to Sirius College Eastmeadows Secondary School, Girls Campus. It is with great pleasure that I take this opportunity to extend my warmest welcome to our new staff members, year 7 students, newly enrolled students and their parents. I wish all students and teachers a very successful, fruitful and joyful school year.

This year I am looking forward to working collaboratively with teachers in differentiating the curriculum. We will continue to place special emphasis on the quality of teaching, learning, programing and assessment. As the new Principal, I am very blessed with a hardworking and experienced team of coordinators contributing to our management team; Mrs Sebnem Golbasi (Year 7 and 8 Coordinator), Ms Gordana Janev (Year 9 and 10 Coordinator), Ms Inass Fayad (Year 11 and 12 Coordinator), Mrs Kevser Gunduz (Teaching and Learning Coordinator), Ms Denise Rimoni (Student Support Coordinator) and Mrs Ruveyda Ozturk (Pastoral Care Coordinator). I would also like to thank our entire teaching team and Pastoral Care staff for sacrificing their lunch times, after schools, Saturdays and even term and summer holidays to provide not only academic support but also values education to all our students. Our dedicated teachers should be the first point of contact regarding your concerns about your child, followed by the coordinators.

We have already completed week 3 and students are nearly back into their study routine. It is very important that students have an organised daily schedule to maintain successful academic, social and behavioural performance. Education is a lifelong journey. Every little step counts. Listening to the teacher in class carefully, being disciplined, completing tasks on time, participating in Pastoral Care activities and extracurricular activities and doing homework regularly are just some of the important steps that we must take. These little steps and efforts will make a huge difference at the end of this journey, especially during VCE, in university years and beyond. Therefore, I strongly encourage parents to follow up their child’s academic, social and behavioral progress closely and ensure that students have a good study timetable, healthy diet, enough physical activity and a good night’s sleep. With your positive attitude and cooperation, I believe we will be able to improve our students’ academic, social and behavioural performance. The newsletter is an important communication tool between the school and families. Please ensure you are kept up to date about forthcoming dates and events via this newsletter.

At Sirius College, we try to provide the best possible academic education to our students.

C.S. Lewis says, “Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever devil.” Therefore, we run many curricular and extracurricular activities at our school in order to teach and reinforce morals and values. Our aim is to nurture a generation of students who are going to be role models, and socially responsible Australian citizens. Knowledge and morality form the foundation of any character whose aim is to make a positive contribution to society and only these people will bring peace and happiness to humanity. In 2019 and beyond, we need this more than anything. We, the Sirius College family, believe this dream will come true one day and once it does transpire, our world will be a better place to live in: harmonious and peaceful for everyone. This will be not possible without your support and contribution.

I wish everyone a very successful school year, filled with joy and happiness.
